Vertex has been involved with the Utah Telecommunications Open Infrastructure (UTOPIA) project since 2004. The project size is anticipated to exceed $80 million. Vertex is working with Tetra Tech providing construction management, scheduling, and other support services. During Phase 1 of the three phase project, we installed 3.5 million feet of fiber optic cable and 1.2 million feet of duct. Nearly 40,000 homes and businesses in Utah now have access to a pure fiber optic network for internet service (10-100+ MB), digital TV, and IP digital phone service. During Phase 2 we have started new fiber optic network builds in six Utah cities.
