The Avon Middle-High School additions and renovations project consisted of the multi-phased
renovation and new construction of an existing, occupied facility. Due to a previously terminated
general contractor many portions of the school were left incomplete. The scope included the
renovation of the existing Middle School and New School Buildings, new construction of a two story
connector building and attached new gymnasium. Time constraints and working in an occupied
building added to the challenges of this project. The project was substantially completed within an
approximately three months, allowing students and teachers to occupy key areas of the new
school.

The West Revere School Complex contains the Whelan Elementary and Susan B. Anthony Middle
Schools in Revere, Massachusetts. The school is composed of classroom spaces, a gymnasium,
auditorium, administration suites, and playgrounds. Vertex took over this project after the original
Contractor went out of business and defaulted on the contract. Vertex's services included punch list
completion, coordination of all trades on the project, contract closeout, and review of over 70
payment bond claims.

addition to the existing William Maxwell High School and performing $15,000,000 rehabilitation to
the existing school. Vertex was retained after the original Contractor defaulted during the
construction of the new addition.

Vertex served as the Surety’s representative hired to assist the General Contractor in the overall
completion of this defaulted project. Duties and responsibilities included contract ratifications,
project scheduling, monthly requisitions, claim review and owner relations. Remedial actions of this
school included Tremco roofing applications, restoration of exterior conditions, parking lot and
grading activities, and MAP system completion and turn over actions.
Westwood, MA

Vertex oversaw the construction of this defaulted, multi-phase project. Duties and responsibilities
included surety consulting and restart work to fulfill bonded obligations. The scope of work included
completion and punchlist of a newly constructed occupied section, demolition of the entire old
school facility, and complete construction of the site package including a new turf football field and
stadium.
San Luis, Colorado
Centennial R-1 School District
Owner’s Representative
Vertex is serving as the Owner’s Representative on this brand new $17.9 million (overall budget)
K-12 educational facility, as part of the BEST program for the Colorado Department of Education
(CDE), for the Centennial R-1 School District. This project is to include photovoltaic panels and a
geothermal field for sustainability. Although this project is not going for LEED certification, the
Owner is aiming to build a sustainable building following the HPCP guidelines.
*Centennial Colorado is in a remote location. Laborers used on this job were local to Centennial.
Winchester, MA

The project included the construction of new classrooms, the gymnasium and the administrative
space. Vertex also completed sitework, landscaping, the playground, building start-up and
punchlist completion.

Vertex has been retained as the OPM to oversee the renovations to Quabbin Regional High School
The renovations are funded by the Massachusetts School Building Program Authority’s (MSBA)
Green Repair Program, whose aim is greening schools’ HVAC and window systems across the
state. Our services include budget management, scope review, constructability review, onsite
project supervision, coordination with the designer as well as with the MSBA.
Quincy, MA
Asbestos / Lead / Hazardous Materials Consulting

Vertex was retained to conduct a full range of hazardous materials identification, including
asbestos, lead-based paint and regulated materials in the occupied building in lieu of planned
demolition activities. Upon completion of the comprehensive survey, detailed abatement
specifications were prepared for the safe, legal removal and disposal of the various materials
identified. Plans and drawings were marked up and special consideration was given for materials
unidentifiable without considerable destructive testing. Vertex maintained full-time on-site
presence to conduct air sampling and analysis, constant visual and inspectional duties during the
entire abatement of hazardous materials, and dust monitoring during the gradual and systematic
demolition of the building to assure that the historical neighborhood residents and structures
remained protected.
