Vertex performed a cost-to-complete analysis and issued a Request for Proposal to assist the Surety in the replacement of the bonded General Contractor for the $29 million Third Street Light Rail project for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. Vertex assisted the surety in the solicitation, evaluation, and selection of the replacement contractor; negotiation of the Contractor’s completion agreement; and ratification of all listed subcontractors. We monitored the replacement contractor through completion. Vertex’s responsibilities included approval of monthly progress payment application, evaluation, and negotiation of change order requests. We also assisted the Surety in the negotiation and final settlement of a $9 million affirmative claim to the Owner for delayed access that impacted the completion contractor as well as the 2nd tier subcontractors. Lastly, Vertex assisted the Surety in negotiation and final settlement with the completion contractor per the completion agreement, change order, and claims.

The original Contract called for the construction of six (6) single-story precast tilt-up buildings totaling 448,600 square feet of office and warehouse space, as well as the installation of associated infrastructure and utilities. This work was divided between two work sites, approximately 1/2 mile apart, located on the grounds of the Denver International Airport (DIA). New roads, a taxiway, and an aircraft ramp were also to be included in the project. Tenant Improvements were identified as a possible add-in, to be included at the Owner's discretion.

Vertex completed renovation of a junction subway station (4 lines).  The project consisted of a complete replacement of the electric, communication, and signal systems along with the replacement of most finish work.  The work included complete construction of two EDR rooms, construction of new platform rooms, new electrical, communication, and signal systems, new HVAC, plumbing & mechanical work, architectural renovations including new tiles, painting, transit maps, employee break room, art panels, and signage.

Vertex served as the Completion Contractor for the $13 million construction of Communication Rooms at the various stations for the NYCTA.  Our scope involved all aspects of Construction Management and Contract Administration. The project involved: coordination of all work at the sixty-one locations including installation of structural steel, repairs to existing structural steel; installation of prefabricated buildings; structural steel painting, interior finishes; electrical and plumbing work; quality control management to ensure compliance of work to contract drawings and specifications; managed inspection process and completion of punch list for each location; and oversight of safety management.
