The Avon Middle-High School additions and renovations project consisted of the multi-phased renovation and new construction of an existing, occupied facility. Due to a previously terminated general contractor many portions of the school were left incomplete. The scope included the renovation of the existing Middle School and New School Buildings, new construction of a two story connector building and attached new gymnasium. Time constraints and working in an occupied building added to the challenges of this project. The project was substantially completed within an approximately three months, allowing students and teachers to occupy key areas of the new school.

We monitored the replacement contractor through completion. Vertex’s responsibilities included approval of monthly progress payment application, evaluation, and negotiation of change order requests. We also assisted the Surety in the negotiation and final settlement of a $9 million affirmative claim to the Owner for delayed access that impacted the completion contractor as well as the 2nd tier subcontractors. Lastly, Vertex assisted the Surety in negotiation and final settlement with the completion contractor per the completion agreement, change order, and claims.
